Every variant is checked for:
- Missing SKU (warning) and missing barcode (informational)
- Exact duplicates — the same SKU or barcode used by more than one variant
- Normalized collisions — values that differ only by case, spacing, or Unicode normalization
- Edge whitespace and control characters in SKUs
- Portable SKU formatting — values beyond Shopify's recommended portable length (16 characters)
- Barcode structure and GTIN check digits — 8, 12, 13, or 14 digits with a valid GS1 check digit
